Rockford Construction Recognized for Excellence in IT Infrastructure Deployment

Santa Clara, Calif. – April 4, 2011 – StorSimple, the leading provider of Hybrid Cloud Storage for Windows and VMware infrastructures, today announced that Rockford Construction has been selected by SNW as a finalist for the Spring 2011 Best Practices Award Program. Rockford’s innovative use of StorSimple’s hybrid cloud storage technology has been recognized as part of the Best Practices in Adopting Emerging and Innovative Technologies category. All finalists - including one winner - in each category will be recognized at SNW Spring 2011, taking place April 4-7, 2011, at the Hyatt Regency Silicon Valley/Santa Clara Convention Center in Santa Clara, Calif.

SNW’s Best Practices Awards Program recognizes excellence in IT infrastructure deployment in the following four categories:

- Best Practices in Adopting Emerging and Innovative Technologies

- Best Practices in IT Consolidation, IT Efficiency and Data Center Design

- Best Practices in Storage Resiliency, Data Protection and Recovery

- Best Practices in Virtualization and Cloud Computing

“SNW’s Best Practices Awards Program honors an elite group of IT management organizations that have demonstrated excellence in IT infrastructure deployment. Storage management is at the center of IT infrastructure and IT management and these finalists have shown they are on the leading edge of innovative technologies," said John Amato, vice president & publisher, Computerworld. "In the face of the past few years of economic turmoil that for many meant budget cuts and staff downsizing, these finalists have continued to innovate and deliver measurable business value. We are pleased to honor the achievements of these 20 finalists who have unlocked the true value of managing today’s information infrastructure.”

One of the nation’s Top 400 contractors, Rockford Construction builds in 40 states and averages $245 million in volume each year. Rockford selected Microsoft SharePoint for archiving data based on a 10 year retention policy, and to give field representatives access to all information about projects in real time while on-site. The company looked to StorSimple’s hybrid cloud storage appliance, alongside Windows Azure cloud services, to implement an innovative cloud-as-a-tier infrastructure. This combination of cloud services and storage allowed Rockford to keep business critical applications like SharePoint, as well as necessary tier 1 and tier 2 data, on premises while automatically migrating non-working set data to the cloud. This has resulted in Solid State Disk (SSD) performance with the instant provisioning and elasticity of Windows Azure storage available from multiple locations.

“Construction is undergoing exponential data growth thanks to the use of video, CAD drawings and blueprints, and storing all that data can tax any system,” said Shawn Partridge, vice president of IT at Rockford Construction. “We found that hybrid cloud storage made the most sense for us, and StorSimple’s cloud-as-a-tier allowed us to keep essential applications and data on premise, and automatically migrate tier 3 data to the cloud. As a result, we’ve been able to keep database volumes low and ensure the performance of SharePoint.”
