Marc Farley Joins StorSimple To Lead Customer Community Growth

Storage Industry Evangelist Brings Experience from HP, 3PAR and EqualLogic; Sees Opportunity Around Next Growth Wave

Santa Clara, Calif. – Feb 01, 2012 – StorSimple today announced that industry visionary Marc Farley has joined the company.  In the last year, StorSimple business grew exponentially because of the fact that CIOs, from Enterprise companies like BMC Software to mid-sized customers like the Sundance Institute, are rushing to extend their data centers and storage infrastructures to the cloud. Given the benefit that cloud architectures can provide to customers, StorSimple’s focus is accelerating the growth of this community. To help lead this effort, Marc Farley joins the company as Senior Director of Community and Customer Programs.

“Throughout my career I’ve tried to identify the technologies and companies with the potential to be change agents for the rest of the industry, “said Farley. “This included the opportunity with EqualLogic with its Ethernet-based iSCSI storage followed by the groundbreaking virtualized utility storage architecture at 3PAR.”

Farley continued, “Many believe cloud integration with enterprise storage will bring the next sweeping change to our industry. StorSimple has developed extremely sophisticated and powerful technology to pursue this opportunity. More importantly, the StorSimple team is committed to building a customer-centric organization, and I’m extremely excited to join them and put my shoulder to the wheel. ”

StorSimple is the leading provider of cloud integrated enterprise storage for Windows and VMware environments.  The company gains Marc’s deep industry experience, which ranges from authoring early seminal books on storage area networks (SANs), building customer communities in similar positions with HP, 3PAR, Dell and EqualLogic, and being a passionate industry evangelist through such vehicles as the Infosmack podcast and various video channels. “Our business is fueled by two trends,” said Ursheet Parikh, StorSimple co-founder and CEO. “The first is companies that want to build their own ‘iCloud for the enterprise’ and need the cloud data controller to do that. The second is that for tier 2 and tier 3 primary data, enterprise customers are more than willing to consolidate the different sorts of storage that are used to manage data into a single solution. This is cloud integrated enterprise storage, and we will grow the community around this category. I’m tremendously excited that we have Marc Farley on our team to lead this charge.”

StorSimple recently was selected as finalist for Storage magazine’s Product of the Year award in the storage systems category and was the only cloud integrated enterprise storage appliance recognized. In addition, the company was recognized as a 2012 Cloud Computing Excellence Award winner. These are the latest of numerous awards achieved on the basis of its innovative products and customer adoption.

StorSimple 5010/7010 Appliance Recognized for Unique Integrated Approach to Cloud Storage with High-Availability, SAS Tier and Non-Disruptive Upgrades

Santa Clara, Calif. – Jan. 24, 2012StorSimple, the leading provider of Cloud Integrated Enterprise Storage for Windows and VMware environments, today announced that its 5010 and 7010 cloud storage gateway appliances have been selected as 2011 Product of the Year finalists in the Storage Systems category by Storage magazine and SearchStorage.com for the second consecutive year. StorSimple was selected from over 200 entries for the quality of its enterprise-grade appliances, which integrate multiple storage devices into one, dramatically reducing infrastructure costs.

The award recognizes the success of StorSimple’s integrated approach to enterprise cloud storage, using an on-premise appliance to automatically tier data to the cloud for primary storage, archiving, backup and disaster recovery. The 5010 and 7010 models add high-availability, non-disruptive upgrades and a SAS tier to go with the SSD and cloud tiers in the original StorSimple 1010 appliance. StorSimple 5010 and 7010 are still the only cloud integrated storage appliances that are certified by both VMware and Microsoft, and have been proven to reduce the cost of traditional storage by up to 80 percent. The StorSimple solution does not require rewriting applications and provides key business continuity features such as cloud snapshots and cloud clones coupled with military grade encryption.

“2011 was a seminal year for StorSimple where our 5010 and 7010 cloud integrated storage appliances have been adopted by mainstream enterprise customers in the finance, oil & gas, government, media, engineering, healthcare and manufacturing verticals to bring the economics of cloud services to enterprise data centers.” said Ursheet Parikh, CEO of StorSimple, “Being the only cloud integrated storage solution in the Storage Magazine Product of the Year storage systems category is a tremendous honor . It validates what we have been hearing from our customers, that we are offering a valuable product for achieving the full benefit of cloud storage. Southwestern Michigan College Deploys VMware Infrastructure on StorSimple Cloud Integrated Enterprise Storage

Educational Institution Deploys StorSimple over Multiple Campuses

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Oct. 05, 2011 – StorSimple, the leading provider of Cloud Integrated Enterprise Storage for Windows and VMware infrastructures, today announced that Southwestern Michigan College (SMC) has selected StorSimple’s appliance to manage its entire VMware environment for primary, archival, backup and offsite disaster recovery across both of its campuses. According to U.S. CTO Aneesh Chopra, three industries can realize the most benefits from the cloud: healthcare, education and energy; StorSimple is currently working with customers across these industries and beyond.

Southwestern Michigan College is a learner centered college with leading programs in nursing and the automotive technology. The institution educates 3,000 students across two campuses in Dowagiac, Mich. and Niles, Mich. With a rapidly growing student base, SMC looked for a storage solution that could simply and cost effectively support the growth of data and provide robust disaster recovery for its VMware and file share environments. Security and the need to minimize migration time and cost were key concerns during the evaluation process. After an extensive review, SMC selected StorSimple for its simple deployment and enterprise class support.

The college initially implemented StorSimple to facilitate a robust offsite disaster recovery plan. Extensive usage of the system revealed the suitability of the appliance to fully support the complete SMC VMware environment across primary, archival and backup as well as offsite disaster recovery across two campuses.

Before any data is written to the cloud it is encoded with military grade encryption, which adequately met SMC’s security requirements. In addition, SMC had previously spent months migrating data, but now instant thin provisioning, deduplication, compression and automatic tiering removed the painful need for migration and archival due to lack of storage space.

“Organizations are afraid of losing control if they move to the cloud, but our experience shows that with an on-premise appliance that auto-tiers storage you get control, high performance and high-availability,” said Don Magee, systems architect for Southwestern Michigan College. “The StorSimple solution had a huge impact, enabling us to manage Big Data without spending months on migration and providing reliable, integrated, primary storage, archival, backup and disaster recovery.”

“Data migration and disaster recovery are especially a challenge for organizations with multiple sites and expanding data requirements,” said Ursheet Parikh, StorSimple CEO. “An effective cloud integrated enterprise storage solution can support changing needs and grow with an organization, as we’ve seen with Southwestern Michigan College. Educational establishments are looking for secure, cost effective alternatives to the traditional storage treadmill. More and more users are seeing Cloud Integrated Enterprise Storage as the solution to control VMware sprawl and growing Windows infrastructures.”

MedPlast selects StorSimple for VMware Ready Enterprise Cloud Storage on Amazon S3

Benefits Achieved Include VMware Primary Storage, Snapshots and Cloud Backup to Amazon

Santa Clara, Calif. – June 22, 2011 – StorSimple, the leading provider of Enterprise Cloud Storage for Windows and VMware infrastructures, today announced that after an extensive evaluation, MedPlast, a leading provider of thermoplastic medical devices, selected StorSimple for VMware Ready cloud storage on Amazon S3. The StorSimple appliance will be used for primary storage, automatic archiving, snapshots, cloud snapshots and disaster recovery.

Tweet This: @StorSimple MedPlast chooses StorSimple to link VMware to cloud storage http://bit.ly/q1RbEn

MedPlast specializes in contract manufacturing of thermoplastic and elastomer medical devices for the healthcare and pharmaceutical industry. It operates five plants across the U.S. which run 24x7 to generate medical devices that are critical to people’s lives. The manufacturing data behind these devices has strict retention requirements and has to be stored for the lifetime of the product, while remaining quickly available when required.  MedPlast started evaluating the cloud and cloud storage when their existing backup targets were becoming full and backup windows were growing excessively long. Instead of purchasing additional disks, Dan Streufert, IT Director for Medplast, led an evaluation to fix the problem and provide a long-term solution.

“When you talk about primary storage and backup, it is one of the most critical parts of your infrastructure and you really need to have confidence in your solution. We looked at all of the vendors in this space and I spent a lot of time analyzing the capabilities and the pros and cons of each one,” said Dan Streufert, IT Director for MedPlast. “It was apparent that StorSimple has the most fully baked solution. They have the most enterprise class product and organization. As soon as you open the box with the StorSimple device you can tell it’s an enterprise class, robust, purpose-built device.”

MedPlast initially started using the StorSimple 5010 as a backup target, but quickly realized that StorSimple is much more. MedPlast quickly moved to storing their Virtual Machines (VMs) on StorSimple, which enabled them to perform instant Snapshots and Cloud Snapshots with no adverse effects on performance and the backup window. The VMs being managed include an ERP application with supporting components such as database reporting, Sharepoint, and programs that monitor the molding presses. File shares and archiving is another key use case.

“Storage is a challenge because the more complex the system, the higher the cost, which creates a very expensive system for enterprise organizations,” said Ursheet Parikh, StorSimple CEO. “To get the most out of enterprise cloud storage, companies need to think about data in a different way. StorSimple is a next generation cloud storage provider and customers, such as MedPlast, that do detailed investigations quickly find the value in our approach to cloud storage.”
